Horseshoe Bend, Colorado River, Arizona

I confess to be rather proud of this shot. Hiking over sandy rocks, up and down in soaring temperatures of around 110 degrees Farenheit (43-44 degrees Celsius) is not for the faint of heart. I really felt like I earned this shot. And even though one is about 1100 feet (335 meters) above the river, one can't really get everything into the photo frame. There are no railings or safety guards and I didn't dare get any closer to the edge--I confess it was positively scary to watch people climbing around out there and I wasn't the only one who thought so. But it truly is a magnificent sight to see that stubborn monolith of rock surrounded by the blue-green water of the Colorado River.
