In certain weather conditions, Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), is literally swept over its banks by the wind and freezes over everything within reach. This photo was taken in February 2012 from the port in Founex.

absolutely spectacular. I've never taken pictures in weather that cold. Maybe minus 10 degrees celcius but that's about the coldest I have tried. beautiful work art

Thanks. It was astoundingly cold, which is the only time that we get this effect. There will be more photos of this type closer to winter, but don't like to post them in the middle of summer!

Living in Australia I can only dream of being surrounded by snow and ice.

Well this was an unusual occurance as it has only happened once or twice before in the last 20 + years or so. I'll be posting some other photos from this photo shoot in the future--it's really quite something to see. But do enjoy the warmth where you are--I'm originally from California and while it is usually milder closer to lake Geneva, we have had some really glacial weather here this winter. It's raining today. Does that make you feel any better?

Australia is the land of extremes!

Unfortunately my complexion is not exactly agreeable with the Australian UV factor. I love the sun, I like it better in the shade though. I'm just saying this so one can imagine the kind of love/hate relationship possible with such a climate, that will leave you cooked, literally, in half an hour in the middle of winter.

That just wouldn't happen in Europe, not in the middle of summer on a Spanish beach. It's unknown ignorance of the Australian climate, it's not as friendly as one could be lead to believe.

Those one in 20 year events! Soon to be every 5 or so years :p

Well sounds like you ought to be investing in suncream stocks or something. At least the frigid weather can make some great photo ops! But honestly, it was so cold (about -18 degrees Celsius) that even with gloves on, my hands got so cold that I couldn't continue shooting without going inside somewhere to warm them up. And shooting with gloves on is really quite awkward. In the meantime, Spring has sprung here and the daffodils and tulips are bursting into bloom, although there's been more snow in the mountains--which can lead to avalanche problems. So guess there's always something somewhere and we just have to make the best of it. And that's what makes it so interesting to see other people's photos from their own corner of the world! So keep shooting and posting!
